Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have questions about BJJ classes for kids or kids’ self-defense classes? Check out some of our most frequently asked below:
What is BJJ?
BJJ (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) is a form of martial arts that focuses on the skill of taking your opponent to the ground with the use of grappling, submission holds, and ground fighting so that you will be in control and in a dominant position. Our focus is on self-defense and anti-bullying, along with the basic art form of Jiu-Jitsu.
Will BJJ Teach My Kids To Be Aggressive?
The short answer is no. Children who take part in BJJ learn to not only protect and defend themselves but also learn about respect for themselves and others. This tends to make children who have never been violent be more kind and respectful, and those with behavior concerns become respectful and kind. They also learn respect for the skill as well as how to use them effectively and appropriately. It is our goal to help your children develop strong mindsets and become confident through our BJJ program.
What If My Child Isn’t Athletic Can They Still Participate?
Yes, they can still participate. Your child does not need to be athletic to take part in our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes for kids. Taking part in BJJ will teach your non-athletic child to be coordinated, strong, and flexible, which will make them become athletic over time.
Do Kids Enjoy BJJ?
Absolutely! We combine moments of fun with moments of focus and concentration in our kids’ and teens’ BJJ classes. With anything in life, we need to have a balance of fun and work, and that is what we strive for with our students.
Do Confidence and Self-Esteem Grow With BJJ?
Tremendously! Children who tend to have low self-esteem or who are shyer in nature, over time, will come out of their shells as their skills develop. BJJ naturally builds their confidence and self-esteem more and more. With that growth of confidence comes teamwork because, as every child develops their skills, they tend to help each other out as well. BJJ also provides self-defense training, so if your child is experiencing bullying, they will learn to defend themselves if verbal bullying turns physical.
How Old Does My Child Have To Be To Start?
Technically your child can start BJJ at any age. Our BJJ classes near you for kids and teens start at the age of 5.
Is Martial Arts Only For Boys?
Absolutely not! Martial arts is also for girls. Our classes have a blend of both boys and girls.
